From Student to Storyteller: My Journey Through Saksham Sanchar

My Journey Through Saksham Sanchar: From a Student to a Storyteller

By Lakshya Govani, APS Jaipur

When I first joined the Saksham Sanchar course, I never imagined that it would not only transform my writing but also redefine how I see the world. What began as a simple classroom program soon became a journey of discovery — one that shaped my voice, refined my vision, and taught me that journalism is not merely about reporting facts, but about feeling, understanding, and inspiring.

A New Way of Seeing the World

Through Saksham Sanchar, I discovered that journalism is not just about headlines — it is about giving a voice to the unheard. It is about turning silent moments into stories that awaken minds and bring people closer. It taught me empathy, awareness, and expression — to look beyond what meets the eye and to question, understand, and convey truth responsibly.

This course reshaped my habits and mindset. I began observing people and places differently — not as a student, but as a storyteller.

Learning the Craft of Journalism

Our sessions were never ordinary. Each class brought a new dimension of learning — from how to frame a story and ask meaningful questions to how to write with clarity and compassion. I began writing articles on topics like the Pokhran Nuclear Test, Operation Sindoor, the Jaipur Wax Museum, and the National Digital Museum.

Every article was a new experience — some inspiring, some emotional, but all aimed at creating awareness. Saksham Sanchar gave me the tools and the courage to explore new forms of expression — through writing, photography, and video storytelling.

The Jaipur Wax Museum: History in Wax and Spirit

Among all the places I visited, the Jaipur Wax Museum at Nahargarh Fort stands out as a treasure trove of inspiration. The statues were so lifelike that it felt as though history had taken form in wax. Standing face-to-face with legends like Maharana Pratap, Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhagat Singh was both humbling and empowering.

During my visit, I had the honour of meeting Mr. Anup Shrivastava, the Head of the Jaipur Wax Museum. His deep passion for art, history, and innovation left a profound impact on me. He spoke about how each wax figure represents not just a person, but a story — a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and contribution to our nation. His vision and dedication inspired me to write one of my most detailed and heartfelt articles.

That visit was not just a trip; it was an awakening — a reminder of how storytelling preserves history and keeps the flame of greatness alive.

SECMOL Campus: Learning Beyond the Classroom

My field reporting journey truly began during my family trip to Ladakh — a place of breathtaking beauty and endless learning. Encouraged by Saksham Sanchar and guided by my teacher, I decided to turn my travel into a reporting experience.

One of the highlights was my visit to SECMOL Campus (Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh) — famously known as the real-life “Rancho School” from 3 Idiots. But what I witnessed there was far beyond the movie. SECMOL is not just a school — it’s a revolution in education.

Students there learn by doing — from constructing eco-friendly buildings using mud and solar energy to running their own campus operations. I recorded a full-length video exploring their classrooms, dormitories, and innovation labs. Each corner reflected creativity and sustainability. Through Saksham Sanchar’s guidance, I learned how to document such experiences — how to frame, narrate, and convey a story visually.

At SECMOL, I realized that true education is not confined to textbooks — it’s about learning from life itself.

Alchi Kitchen: A Story of Culture and Courage

In Alchi village, I met the inspiring owner of Alchi Kitchen, one of Ladakh’s first woman-led restaurants. Her journey was a story of courage, perseverance, and empowerment. She shared how she started the restaurant with a vision to preserve Ladakhi culture through cuisine.

I conducted a full interview and recorded the experience on video. Through her story, I learned that journalism is not just about famous figures — it’s about everyday heroes who build change quietly, one step at a time.

The Saksham Sanchar course gave me the confidence to approach people, ask the right questions, and tell stories that truly matter.

Government Primary School: Learning from Simplicity

During my Ladakh visit, I also spent a full day reporting from a Government Primary School. I interacted with the teachers and students, observed classroom activities, and even joined their Environment Day rally. It was one of the most enriching experiences of my journey.

Later, I received this heartfelt review from the school — words that will stay with me forever:

“We were pleased to welcome Mr. Lakshya to our government school for a full-day visit. During his time with us, he showed genuine interest in understanding the day-to-day functioning of the school. He interacted respectfully and thoughtfully with both staff and students, asking insightful questions and actively listening to their perspectives. He spent time observing classroom teaching, school facilities, and extracurricular activities. His keen observation skills and positive attitude were appreciated by everyone. He also engaged well with our students, creating a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere for open dialogue. He also participated in the Environment Day rally.

Overall, his visit was a meaningful experience for both our school community and himself. We thank him for his time and thoughtful engagement, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Those words reminded me that even as a student journalist, one can make a meaningful impact.

The Hisar Presentation: A Day to Remember

Our journey to Hisar remains one of the proudest moments of this course. The morning began with laughter and confusion over breakfast — debating whether our poha was rice, khichdi, or upma! But soon, the lighthearted mood gave way to deep pride when we were welcomed at an Army Camp with respect and warmth.
Standing on the stage for our presentation, I felt a rush of purpose. The audience — students of APS and Kendriya Vidyalaya — listened with genuine curiosity. They didn’t just hear us; they connected with us. Their questions were thoughtful, and their enthusiasm contagious.

An Army officer later praised our confidence and discipline, saying we “spoke like true journalists.” That appreciation was priceless. It reminded me that communication, when done with sincerity, can truly touch hearts.

Presenting at APS Jaipur: My Home Stage

Among all the moments of pride, presenting my Saksham Sanchar journey at APS Jaipur, my own school, was the most emotional. Standing on that familiar stage, I shared how the course had changed my life — how I had grown from a student to a storyteller.

My teachers and friends applauded not just the presentation, but the passion behind it. That day, I realized that inspiration begins at home — and that the best stories often start from the classrooms that shaped us.

Skills That Shaped My Future

Through Saksham Sanchar, I gained more than technical skills — I gained clarity and confidence. From writing and photography to interviewing, editing, and public speaking, I learned how to communicate with empathy and precision.

I learned that journalism is not about being first — it’s about being true. Every article, every photograph, and every video was a lesson in responsibility and integrity.

Gratitude and Growth

None of this would have been possible without Archana Ma’am. She has been more than a mentor — a guide who saw potential in every student and helped us turn curiosity into creativity. Her encouragement pushed me to write my best articles, especially during my Ladakh reporting. Her faith in us gave us courage to explore, experiment, and excel.

A Journey Beyond Words

Saksham Sanchar has been more than a course — it has been a journey of transformation. It turned my curiosity into purpose, my observations into stories, and my dreams into direction.

Today, I don’t just see — I observe.
I don’t just write — I express.
And I don’t just learn — I inspire.

Because through Saksham Sanchar, I didn’t just find my voice — I found my calling.

Thank you.
